_YOUTH FOYER – HOLMESGLEN AND BROADMEADOWS
The Victorian Government made an election commitment to invest $30.1 million over three years to establish three purpose-built separately located youth foyers, the first of which was to be the Broadmeadows project.
We reported previously about the imminent construction of a ‘youth foyer’ in Broadmeadows.
The youth foyer concept is based on a United Kingdom model where accommodation is provided for youth who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of experiencing homelessness and want to complete education and training. Each youth foyer will consist of on-campus, self-contained accommodation for approximately 40 students and provide education and skills to young people to assist them in realising their aspirations in life.
Last year Collie provided town planning services to the Department of Human Services (DHS) in relation to the occupation of a building on Waverley Road, Glen Waverley (on the Holmesglen TAFE site) for the purposes of a youth foyer.
With construction of the Broadmeadows foyer to commence this month the Glen Waverley foyer will now be the first operational foyer following some minor modifications to the building.
Collie has enjoyed working on these innovative social projects and looks forward to the realisation of the third foyer in due course.
