_CARTIER

Collie was engaged to assist Cartier in obtaining multiple planning permits for the new Cartier store at 90 Collins Street, Melbourne. Collie worked with F2 Architecture to lodge a planning permit application for advertising signs and alterations to the fa├žade and floor space of the building which is affected by heritage controls. In addition, a separate application was lodged for the display of temporary hoarding for work undertaken on the ground floor.

The Collie role included:

  • review of the relevant provisions of the Melbourne Planning Scheme and advice to Cartier and F2 Architecture;
  • developing an appropriate proposal which responded positively to the site and surrounding area;
  • preparation and submission of detailed planning reports to Melbourne City Council [Council];
  • monitoring of applications, consultation and negotiation with Council to achieve a well-resolved design proposal;
  • ongoing liaison with Council, architects and Cartier to resolve an appropriate design.

The main consideration with the applications was the heritage significance of the site and whether the proposed changes respected the heritage qualities of the building and broader precinct. The building is located in the Collins East Precinct under a Heritage Overlay of the Melbourne Planning Scheme which is known for its high-end retail character. Collie was able to work with all stakeholders involved to refine the design of the proposal to the satisfaction of the Council.
